Covalently-bound organic monolayers for biosensor applications
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we present a detailed investigation on monolayer formation with thicknesses amounting 1 nm to 3 nm on silicon and silicon nitride surfaces. Thermal and photochemical methods are successfully used to form such stable and densely backed monolayers. Further, functionalisation of these surfaces with activated esters, amine groups are also presented. Static water contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy (AFM), infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are used to follow the progress of the reaction and final characterisation of the resulting surfaces. These monolayers can be further functionalised to link DNA and other biomolecules.

Functionalization of acetylene-terminated monolayers on Si(100) surfaces: a click chemistry approach.
In this article, we report the functionalization of alkyne-terminated alkyl monolayers on Si(100) using "click" chemistry, specifically, the Cu(I)-catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azides with surface-bound alkynes. Covalently immobilized, structurally well-defined acetylene-terminated organic monolayers were prepared from a commercially available terminal diyne species us...

A new class of twin-chain hydroxyalkylthiols (mercaptoalkanols) featuring a nearly constant cross-section and the potential for modification of one or both termini are available with complete regioselectivity through Pd-mediated couplings of benzene diiododitriflate, including an example of a previously unreported coupling to generate an ortho-substituted arene bis acetic acid. Self-assembled m...
متن کاملPatterning self-assembled monolayers using microcontact printing: a new technology for biosensors?
A biosensor combines two functions: molecular recognition and signal transduction’. The fabrication of a biosensor often requires the properties of surfaces to be tailored and patterned with complex organic functional groups including, for example, ligands for protein recognition, and attachment points for proteins, peptides, carbohydrates and other relevant groups. Convenient, generally applic...
متن کاملA theoretical view on self-assembled monolayers in organic electronic devices
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of covalently bound organic molecules are rapidly becoming an integral part of organic electronic devices. There, SAMs are employed to tune the work function of the inorganic electrodes in order to adjust the barriers for charge-carrier injection into the active organic layer and thus minimize undesired onset voltages. Moreover, in the context of molecular elect...
متن کاملRecognition of Salmonella Typhimurium by Immobilized Phage P22 Monolayers.
Phages are promising alternatives to antibodies as the biorecognition element in a variety of biosensing applications. In this study, a monolayer of bacteriophage P22 whose tailspike proteins specifically recognize Salmonella serotypes was covalently bound to glass substrates through a bifunctional cross linker 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. The specific binding of Salmonella typhimurium to the...
